A study funded by the Society of American Florists and the American Floral Endowment showed the assumptions behind sympathy petals to be true: they symbolize love, care and concern for those affected by the loss of someone special. More than 50 percent of surveyed individuals said receiving plants or petal arrangements helped them cope with grief. The findings also emphasized the impact of funeral petals during the service.
